I know, I know… call me crazy but I truly believe that we will see Hillary making a charge for the White House in ’12.
She may say that she has no plans to run for office, but then I remember back in 2002 it was reported that she would like to be President. But then, I remember that all through ‘03, ’04, ’05, and ’06 she vehemently denied any desire to run for the presidency. I remember how she stood and without her husbands wagging finger told us that she just wanted to a Senator from New York.
Ye-ah… ri-ight… then came January 20, 2007. There was no shock or surprise when she announced that she was forming an exploratory committee to seek the nomination of the Democratic Party. Oh, she had also filed all the requisite papers with the Federal Election Commission.
And then she was butting heads with Big Barry…
…and she lost.
Or did she? She got all of her dirty laundry out of the way. Anyone running against her who tries to bring up Bill, Whitewater, and the list goes on and on and on… they will be told to “move on, that’s old news, that’s already been covered”.
The Republicans won’t be able to use rationed Healthcare against her: Big Barry is taking it on the chin for that scam.
Her lack of meaningful foreign experience? That’s one of the pillars she will have to run on. Bill? Bill… who? Oh, you mean her husband: the forty-second President of these ‘United’ States? Where HAS Bill been lately? As scarce as he has been, I’m surprised we haven’t been seeing his picture on milk cartons.
Speaking of Bill: In 1994 Michael Kelly profiled Bill Clinton in a piece for the New York Times Magazine and said, “…There is a level of mistrust and even dislike of him that is almost visceral in its intensity.” The same has been said of Hillary and that some Democrat’ic’s were afraid to really get behind her because she would prove to be such a lightning rod. They may not have any real choice in 2012.
“But she’s the Secretary of State!” You protest.
Yeah, and for anyone with her “background”, she is well prepared to make a full-frontal assault.
· First lady
· Co-President with what-his-name
· U.S. Senator
· Secretary of State
Much as I don’t like her politics, and the lady does truly scare me there, and although I don’t believe that she is, or was, the smartest woman on the planet, I do not believe she is in ANY way stupid!
I know that when she accepted the Cabinet post of Secretary a LOT of people asked “Huh? What is this woman THINKING?” Everyone from Limbaugh and Hannity to everyone else behind a microphone was asking that same question.
I said it then and I will say it now: this woman was and IS positioning herself to make Big Barry a one-termer.
She has a staff of eight who she says are just there to mind the store on a failed campaign. They are patiently watching over $3 million as it gathers dust. When you consider the massive debt her campaign faced when she bowed out of the race and she is now a little over $3 million to the good! Oh, her website is still accepting contributions. She may SAY that she will soon pare back to five people on staff, but I doubt THAT will happen. Those eight people are worth their weights in gold for the moneymaking skills they have proven to possess.
“How would she pull this feat off?” You ask.
Simple: She’s already making noise in the right circles and asking seemingly innocuous enough questions about Big Barry’s handling of the economy, the war, again the list goes on. Oh, don’t get me wrong: “She’s VERY supportive” of her boss, it’s just… well… ya know… this or that could have been handled abit differently.
In another year (at the VERY most) I believe that she will ratchet up her ‘concerns’ and complaints to the point that she will eventually throw up her hands and say, “I have had ENOUGH! I believed in this man and his vision of change but this is NOT the change we needed. I’m resigning and I’m going to work to restore this country to what it should be.”
She can sound Centrist with that kind of talk: Moderates, Independents, and a lot of Republicans (and some Democrats) will really like that. She would have instantly distanced herself from the Obama administration (which she has not been an integral part of anyway – just look at how she and her followers have been treated).
Faced with double digit unemployment, a failed rationed healthcare agenda, a stimulus package that failed to stimulate, and quite possibly single digit approval numbers; the Democrat’ic’ Party nomination will be hers for the asking. I did not say that the Presidency will be, she’s going to have to go through Sarah to get that.
A charge for the White House by Hillary again? Do you really believe that?
I think you make some very interesting points Mr. M. Smith, and I had similar thoughts at one point. However, how would you account for her ineffectiveness on the global scene?
This particular area is a thorn in the former First Lady’s side that will not be remedied through her efforts in the Obama administration. I think that was part of Obama’s reasoning for placing her in the position she is in.
One; it stops “Chilly Willy” from any aspirations he may have of becoming involved in the United Nations. Two; she had to publicly secede to him and adopt his agenda, thus weakening her political character, as Hillary’s claim to fame was Obama’s inexperience. Third; as she begins to criticize, he can easily assert that she is not implementing the agenda he has commissioned her to employ. If she begins to squawk too much, her boss will simply relegate her to the political side lines and claim that her incompetence is a danger to our foreign relations.
As for Hillary’s ability to sound centrist to cater to the moderates, especially the conservatives, would be an exercise in futility as she has already played those cards and people have learned that she is a political chameleon. Therefore, I do not see that as a successful campaign effort.
High levels of unemployment would, in no way, benefit Hillary, as the nation still recalls that issue was not one of Billy-Boys strengths. Hillary would still have to overcome the idea that she voted for the bail-outs of the finance and auto industries, and let’s not forget she favored the initial stimulus under Bush. And finally, we all know we would be getting a two-for-one deal. We get Hillary, we’ll get Bill.
No, Mr. Smith. I do not believe the Democratic nomination will be hers for the asking. All challengers will be criticizing Obama. Hillary will need something better if she truly has aspirations to the Presidency.
Like I said: ‘call me crazy’ but yes, I truly do believe Hillary will run and will win the Democrat’ic’ Party nomination.
Granted, Hillary’s win/loss ratio on the world stage is… well, if she were in the MLB, she would be looking at having already been traded three times and then sent down to play at a real powerhouse like… the Binghamton Mets.
But, as it is, she is a Clinton. And with well over $3 million in the bank (and more coming in daily), she has the clout to muscle her way in.
But above that, remember this: she is a Democrat! She will not be measured by her results. Actions… mmm… Intentions: oh yeah! It will be said that ‘She has tried to do make the world a better place and work with the nut-cases’. And then it will be whispered, ‘but you know how Big Barry would always cut her off… ’. She can whine with the best of them.
Yes, Big Barry can accuse her of being unfaithful to his agenda and yes, she did sign on to it. But, every good politician understands when to cut and run. She said she would be his Secretary of State… “but that was then, when they all believed in his ‘Hope and Change’. No-ow… we just aren’t sure.” Like I said, all she has to do is remind everyone of her loyalty to him. She believed, and he has let her down.
All the men in her life have always let her down… poor girl.
BUT she’s going to show them! No more believing their whispered promises, she’s going to go out and take care of the world herself!
Don’t forget that the economy was what helped, in a major way, to let her and Bubba live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for eight years. How can we forget James Chester Carville nearly shouting from the rooftops “It’s the economy stupid!”
That one line did more for Bubba than just about any of Bush 41’s blunders.
Ask just about anyone you meet and they will tell you that they were doing better financially under the Clinton administration: whether they actually were or not… they BELIEVED they were.
Yes, Hillary is viewed as a political chameleon, but a forceful exit from his Cabinet… accompanied with the rhetoric and vengeful allegations only a Clinton could throw out… yeah, I do believe that a lot of Conservatives, would in their haste to glom onto ANYTHING anti-Obama, jump to her side.
“She had seen the light! She had been in the belly of the beast and had found her way out!” One or two “Pretty in Pink” news conferences and they would be hers.
And last, but not least: Yes, as I said: one of her ‘Qualifications’ is her standing as Co-President. It’s one of her selling points as to having had experience in the Oval Office.
So yeah… she’s going to run, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing her ratcheting up her machine.
I agree. Against all my fears, I believe you are right: she is going to run. I don’t think she will have to wait for another year to come out. Everyday I see another story about her running. I think we will start to see all number of pleading and crying from all corners for her to step up and challenge Obama and stop the madness.
We won’t have to wait for her, I think that all we have to do is see just how long she will be able to hold out against the pleading masses.
