Friday afternoons are not considered good times to make major political announcements. The Friday before a major holiday weekend when the lamestream media has bagged it for the weekend… hmmm…
For anyone other than Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, this would be met with a yawn and “We’ll check this out on Monday.”
With her, and the weekend ‘yak and blather’ shows may prove me wrong, but… with the Ensign and Sanford scandals so recent in our collective minds, I’m thinking that her timing could not have been any more perfect.
She gets to control the announcement of her resigning through Twitter and the interviews she will give.
Ann Coulter told guest host Mark Simone on the Sean Hannity show that Sarah Palin was stepping down so that she could possibly get a little refining. Ann also speculated that Sarah may be setting up a run for the upcoming vacant Senate seat in 2010. Mark was giving voice to the idea that she is doing this to get out of politics and either go on the speaking trail or into a high profile, highly lucrative corporate position. Maybe to return to politics after a year or two.
Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC News is says that she has reliable information that Sarah is getting out of politics completely.
One thing I have learned in years of being married: LISTEN to what the woman is saying! And I’m telling you: LISTEN to what Sarah said!
She told everyone why she is leaving.
Every one – all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won! But it hasn’t been cheap – the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to “opposition research” – that’s money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers – or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the “politics of personal destruction” … Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn’t cost them a dime so they’re not going to stop draining public resources – spending other peoples’ money in their game.
It’s pretty insane – my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now. I know I promised no more “politics as usual,” but THIS isn’t what anyone had in mind for ALASKA.”
· 15 different bogus ethics complaints that she had to devote time and energy to instead of being Governor
· Two million dollars has been spent by the state of Alaska on her defense against these frivolous complaints
· These bogus charges cost the liberals who filed them nothing (Another case for ‘Loser pays’ Tort Reform)
· She is “looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight”
Some have said that she “was spending 80% of her time defending herself “ from those bogus ethics complaints.
I read a comment from someone who said that she was being gutless for running away from the fight and Alaska will be better off without her.
Ye—ah… ri—ight… If it came down to no other choice, I don’t believe Sarah Palin would run from a fight with a bear even if all she had was a stick! And I’m thinking that she would be sporting a VERY warm coat courtesy of said bear.
The cost to her fellow Alaskans far outweighs the benefit to her remaining in the Governor’s Office.
Whether she goes on speaking tours, fighting for other Conservatives (which she SAID she is planning on doing), mounts a Senatorial bid or starts a Presidential campaign: no one will be able to accuse her of ignoring her job as governor. This may be a totally acceptable operating procedure for democrats but for someone with both the personal and professional integrity of Sarah Palin… it is repugnant to her.
I’m also thinking of how her resignation speech was handled will further terrify democrats:
· Where were her notes?
· Where was her teleprompter?
(Oh, but the very fact that she did not have to depend on either has sent some into tailspins of blather about how she ‘rambled’… Yeah… right… and, we all know how coherent Big Barry is when he has to go off script to breath…)
Democrats and a lot of Republicans were already afraid of this woman. And they should be. If they weren’t why do they attack her with such viciousness. If she was everything they spit out: inexperienced, can’t speak well… compare her performance today to Big Barry… He can’t do anything without his teleprompter and scripted news conferences, complete with setup questions.
Now that they can’t squawk about false allegations, devoting valuable time and energy to them instead of her gubernatorial duties, stupid logo innuendos… what will Democrats and spineless (Moderate) Republicans whine about her for next. Continue to call her childish names?
Meanwhile, she can move on and really take her game to the next level.
Just like she SAID she is going to.
You may be on to something here.
How troubling would it be, to those political hacks that fear her, if she does all three of the things you surmise?
She could go on a national speaking tour, getting her message out, and boosting for potential conservative candidates and incumbents alike. At this point however, her detractors will simply try to relegate her to a status of irrelevancy.
Then of course, she could make a run for the vacant senate seat which she would probably win. Her detractors would no longer be able to consider her irrelevant, and those who attempted to do so while she is on the speaking tour, would suddenly appear incompetent.
Finally, a run for the Oval Office. What a combination: Intelligence, pride, tenacity, executive experience, senatorial experience, conservative values all wrapped up in a plain, ordinary American.
After all, I think the thing that scares politicians the most about Sarah, is that she relates to the average person. Sarah Palin’s family has the same issues as the rest of average American families. Think about it, look how many teens get pregnant in America, that is just one issue in which the “commoners” got to watch her handle, just like the “commoners”. No special ability to just make the issue disappear.
I wonder, if in an attempt to assassinate Sarah Palin’s character, politically and personally, her detractors and attackers have actually, unintentionally created a political powerhouse, over which they now have no control.
At any rate, it should be interesting to watch thing develop.
